Data Center Technician Apprentice

Responsibilities:
Provide support of the Physical/Virtual server, storage, and network infrastructure. This includes the usage of proprietary incident, change, and problem management ticketing systems.
- Troubleshooting of hardware issues (issuing power resets, hands on support, crash cart connectivity)
- Coordinate with Third Party Maintenance and manufacturer warranties to replace faulty parts (power supplies, failed server components, etc.)
- Racking and cabling of all equipment
- Coordinate installation and basic configuration tasks with associated teams
- De-racking and proper disposal of all retired equipment and hard drives and recover all viable cabling and place in storage
- Maintain cabling inventory and coordinate new procurements as needed
- Work with vendors on design items such as new infrastructure cabling, electrical equipment
- Provide escort to company personnel or vendors to remediate outages, equipment failures or contracted installations, on an as-needed basis.
- Coordinate with facilities on all maintenance efforts in the EDC or that potentially impact the EDC’s
- Ensure that change requests for any maintenance events are properly submitted and approved before work occurs
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes. This entails verifying environmental systems as well as electrical systems and any servers that show signs of distress.
- Coordinate and support Disaster Recovery activities with application owners and Data Integrity
- Develop and document technical processes and procedures as needed.
- Maintain all data center and Stay Behind Infrastructure (SBI) documentation/inventory/pod tracker utilizing Nlyte and proprietary tools in a timely fashion.
- Be part of a weekly on call rotation to support mission critical outages.
- Function as a 1st or 2nd shift member of the team responsible for 24x7x365 on-call system as required
- Report project status as required for all recurring and non-recurring efforts.
- Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed to support outages and scheduled activity.
- Provide timely updates of all projects or issues to the EDC manager
- Ensure the EDC is kept properly cleaned and kept free of and unnecessary items
- Serve as shipping/receiving coordinator for equipment being shipped to/from the EDC and (Stay Behind Infrastructure) SBI’s
- Utilize proprietary ITSM tools to receive/update tasks and respond to notifications. (ServiceNow, SolarWinds, Nlyte, etc).
- Provide a weekly status report of work performed (completed, upcoming, challenges, etc.).
