Entry Level Estimator
Job Description for Entry Level Estimator Includes:
- Once project has been identified, fill out estimate sheet, post project to Virtexco’s Website, set up the project on the website and invite all subcontractors.
- Read and Understand Specifications
- Place all cost-related items on the summary sheet. Key items to look for are as follows:
- Builder’s risk.
- All permits including the building permit.
- Use charges for electrical, water and sewer.
- Allowances are fully understood and put on the summary sheet. Some key items are as follows:
- Are they to be included in the base bid/alternate?
- Do they include contractor mark-up and fee?
- RFI to architect so the allowances will be placed on the bid form.
- Material testing.
- Temp fencing.
- Traffic control.
- Delegated designs.
- Place all cost-related items on the summary sheet. Key items to look for are as follows:
- Perform take-offs as required. Key items to think about while taking the project off are as follows:
- Temporary requirements such as temp. partitions, temp. windows/doors, temp. access, etc.
- If the project is a multi-story building, access/material lifting
- Put items typically excluded by subcontractors on green sheet’s Summary Page under the proper division (i.e. blocking, waterproofing, rigid insulation, etc.).
- Put items that are completed by different trades that are shown on the wrong division’s drawings (i.e. if steel lintels are shown on architectural drawings the estimator should put a line, Steel Lintels under division 05 so the estimator knows to ask about them on bid day.)
- Call all subcontractors to gauge their interest in bidding on the project.
- Call key and specialty subcontractors about the scope of work (what they are going to include/exclude, time frame, access requirements, etc.).
- Missing items are on the green sheet’s Summary Page under the proper division
- Subcontractors have been invited to bid and are aware of the drawing pages where their scope of work is required.
- Check for and post addendums to our website as required.
- Order bid bonds and proper insurance including builder’s risk.
- Put together bid package from check list. Items include but are not limited to:
- Cover sheet
- Bid form
- Addendums
- Certificate of Insurance
- Bid Bond
