Sales Development Representative

ABOUT PAYRA

Payra is the payments and AR automation platform built for the companies that build America. Construction suppliers, building materials distributors, ready-mix concrete companies, industrial supply businesses. These companies process thousands of invoices every month, chase payments by hand, and reconcile everything manually. We work inside their existing ERP systems so payments automatically match to the right invoice with zero manual effort.

We recently closed a round of funding because the product is making a real difference for our customers and we're ready to get it in the hands of a lot more of them. This is a company pouring gasoline on something that's already working. We're profitable, growing fast, and just getting started.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is the founding SDR role at Payra. You won't be handed a playbook that’s already written. You'll be helping build it.

Your job is to open doors. You'll be prospecting into CFOs, Controllers, and AR Managers at mid-market companies running legacy ERP systems. You'll research accounts, write outreach, make calls, and generate qualified meetings for the sales team. The companies you're reaching are not on the coast and they're not tech companies. They're family-owned businesses in places like Knoxville, Milwaukee, and Asheville that have done AR the same way for 30 years. 

You'll be working directly with executive leadership. The feedback loops are short, the visibility is high, and the impact you have on this company's growth trajectory will be obvious.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Your day-to-day is prospecting. You'll spend your time finding the right companies, reaching the right people, and earning the first conversation. Everything you do feeds the sales team with qualified opportunities and helps us learn what works so we can scale it.

  • Research and identify target accounts using firmographic data, ERP signals, and industry fit
  • Write personalized outbound emails and make cold calls to decision-makers at target companies
  • Book and confirm qualified meetings for the AE team
  • Keep CRM records clean and activity logged so the team has a clear picture of what's moving

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We care more about who you are than what's on your resume. The best person for this role has a track record of going after goals, earning people's attention, and figuring things out without being told exactly how. Prior SDR experience is great but not required. What matters is that you've done something that proves you can do this work.

  • High agency and self-directed. You don't wait for permission to solve a problem or start a project.
  • Comfortable picking up the phone and writing a sharp email. You've done some version of outreach before, whether in sales, recruiting, fundraising, real estate, or something else where attention was earned, not given.
  • Clear communicator who can hold a real conversation and adapt to the person on the other end of the line.
  • Coachable and competitive. You take feedback seriously and you keep score with yourself.
