The City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department is currently seeking a Full-Time Supervisor to be responsible for all programming and events for children and adults in the area of Environmental Education. This position also is responsible for the implementation of the Land Lab Program and oversight of the Habitat Environmental Education Center. This position will also serve as the Volunteer Coordinator and Naturalist for the Land Lab project. This position is responsible for the recruitment, selection and oversight of all educational program staff and instructors. 

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Coordinate environmental programs, classes and events of interest to children from birth to eighteen years of age as well as adults and families;
  • Recruit, train and supervise all camp staff and program instructors; secure, supervise and evaluate both hourly and contractual program employees;
  • Maintain equipment and supply inventory for environmental programs;
  • Develop marketing strategies and promote programs and events through media, i.e., newspapers, fliers, posters, displays, public service announcements and social media and community newsletters.

 

The ideal candidate will have the ability to take primary responsibility for the entire environmental education program operation.  Strong interpersonal skills, experience in working in public sector, and a background in environmental program service delivery desirable.  Must possess creativity and an enthusiastic attitude.  Must have the ability to work with a variety of school and city administrative staff and personnel. Excellent organizational and staff supervisory skills are required, as well as the ability to work effectively with all employees, City officials and the general public. Experience in budget management and preparation preferred. Excellent communication skills and strong leadership abilities are desirable. If not currently certified in CPR and First Aid, certification will be required after appointment. A baccalaureate degree in Education, preferably Environmental Education, from an accredited college or university with a minimum of four years’ teaching experience or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities desirable.
