Geotechnical Engineer

Geotechnical Engineer – NYC/NJ Office

As a GEODesign employee, you can expect to work on a variety of challenging projects that will include all facets of geotechnical engineering including foundation designs, subsurface explorations, support of excavation and underpinning, secant pile walls, tieback anchors, rock engineering, dam engineering, blast engineering, instrumentation, vibration monitoring, and value engineering. We have been retained as a consultant for hundreds of infrastructure projects, including all types of buildings, highways, bridges, dams, levees, retaining walls, soil and rock slopes, and waterfront bulkheads.

Some of our notable projects include the following:

  • Metro North Railroad – A multi-year contract providing rock engineering for all MNR rock slopes in New York to ensure we help keep the trains running safely and on time.
  • Essex Crossing – A $1 billion Lower East Side megaproject encompassing six acres and nine buildings.
  • Domino Sugar – A $1.5 billion redevelopment project of an 11-acre site along Brooklyn’s East River that will include several high-rise buildings and a renovated NYC landmark refinery building.
  • Two Fulton Square – A 50-foot deep excavation where we designed and inspected complex SOE and secant pile walls.
  • Park Row – a new 700-foot residential skyscraper requiring a complex SOE design to support and protect adjacent historical landmark buildings and subway tunnels. 
  • Salem Harbor Offshore Wind Port - redevelopment of a 42-acre site for a marine terminal providing heavy-lift deployment and logistics services for offshore wind infrastructure in the Northeast United.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform field inspections of test borings, test pits, foundation piles, SOE systems, underpinning, and more.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to perform engineering calculations and prepare geotechnical reports and proposals.
  • Maintain a professional image and be respectful to everyone.
  • Remain flexible to serve as a cross-disciplinary resource to best serve GEODesign’s needs.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Entry level to two years of geotechnical or civil engineering experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Possess reliable transportation to access project sites and have a valid driver’s license.
