- Must be enrolled in and completed the first year of program study towards an associate or bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university, or enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited college or university, or is within two years of graduation of any such program;

POSITION OPENINGS:
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS AND POLITICAL ACTION INTERN
Be able to analyze data and create spreadsheets and talking points for congress members as well as their staff.
- Develop one-page talking points for each Member of Congress who has delivered meaningful wins for firefighters.
- Highlight key legislative actions supported by each member.
- Identify and summarize funding secured by each member.
- Showcase district-level impacts resulting from each member’s efforts.
- Tailor each one-pager to the individual member.
- Emphasize achievements that resonate at the local level.
- Ensure materials are practical for use by both the member and affiliates.
- Support use of materials in district communications, meetings, and public events.
WEB DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Assist with the management, design, and maintenance of WordPress websites, ensuring optimal performance, speed, and responsiveness. Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, test sites for functionality and cross-browser compatibility, and support ongoing content updates and general website maintenance.
- Basic understanding of WordPress, including post types, media library, and plugins.
- Basic understanding of WordPress block theme structure, internationalization, and block page builder.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
- Familiarity with debugging techniques.
- Knowledge of PHP and MySQL is a plus.
- Familiarity with the WPML Multilingual Plugin is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) INTERN
The intern will work on GIS projects including the review of the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS). Primarily, work will involve data management and analysis of vector datasets related to fire departments including station locations, response boundaries, and response coverages. The position will include research using open source GIS data, comparative analysis of GIS sources, and archiving and categorizing data. Some report writing will be required to summarize tasks and workflows. A presentation of work is expected on completion of the internship.
- Experience with GIS analysis and Esri products, including StoryMaps, AGOL, and ArcGIS Pro.
- Completion of at least two GIS-related courses required.
- Additional data analysis skills preferred but not required.
- Experience with scripting languages such as R or Python is a plus.
- Strong time management skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate promptly and effectively via email, phone, and video calls.
GENERAL SECRETARY-TREASURER'S (GST) OFFICE BUSINESS INTERN/SPECIAL PROJECTS
The ideal candidate is proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft SharePoint, and demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail. They possess excellent verbal and written communication abilities, effective problem-solving skills, and maintain a high level of professionalism and efficiency in their work.
- Convention Database Project: data entry and recordkeeping - Years 1970 – 1918.
- Extract individual resolutions from each convention year's proceedings, initiate data entry into each year's respective spreadsheet.
- Transfer resolved clauses from individual resolutions into the convention year's corresponding spreadsheet for staff to catalogue further.
- Assist the Office by providing general administrative support.
- Assist with preparation for meetings and events as assigned.
- Draft templates of letters/correspondence as assigned.
HAZMAT TRAINING STRATEGY & SUPPORT INTERN
The ideal candidate will support a range of administrative and project-based tasks, including assisting with short-term, on-site organization of storage spaces and inventory at IAFF headquarters. They will help draft and edit reports, emails, and training materials, as well as support data entry, tracking, and basic analysis for training and grant reporting. The role also includes contributing to the development of presentations and summary documents, creating basic video or social media content for program promotion, and assisting with research and information gathering for projects. Additionally, the candidate will help document processes, develop simple SOPs or checklists, and provide overall administrative and project support to the team.
Local candidate available for short-term (1–2 weeks) on-site support at IAFF HQ for storage organization and inventory projects

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM RESEARCH ANALYST
The ideal candidate will conduct systematic medical and scientific literature searches and perform scholarly reviews to interpret and apply relevant findings. They will review medical records and clinical notes, provide summaries of workplace exposures unique to the fire service, and correlate available research with individual medical histories as appropriate.

ORGANIZING INTERN
Support organizing efforts by responding to and processing incoming leads and maintaining the national organizing database. Prepare and distribute organizing materials to new and existing locals, and produce reports for state associations, local affiliates, and headquarters staff. Conduct research on non-union fire and EMS departments, assist in drafting social media content and creating organizing flyers, and participate in virtual organizing meetings. Additionally, observe virtual election hearings in representation cases before administrative agencies such as the National Labor Relations Board and state public employment relations boards.
