Digital Marketing Intern

Digital Marketing & Social Media Intern

Summer Internship Position, San Francisco, California

Want to gain hands-on experience producing digital content at a mission-driven financial services company? A summer internship at FHLBank San Francisco is an excellent opportunity to build your portfolio and network in the financial services industry in the Bay Area!

Description

Support the Bank’s Marketing team by producing high‑quality digital content that strengthens our brand presence and communicates our mission to key audiences on high-growth digital channels. This includes creating short‑form videos, graphics, and social media assets designed for LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and internal channels.

The ideal intern is a hands‑on creator who is comfortable coordinating content production from concept through delivery. You should have prior experience producing content for a digital channel — whether a student organization’s channel, a prior internship or personal brand — and be able to demonstrate strong writing and storytelling skills through at least one project or campaign you’ve led.

You will work within a secure virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and participate in a regulated multi‑level review/approval workflow. The role requires creativity balanced with the compliance and adaptability associated with the Federal Home Loan Bank system.

Responsibilities

Develop an understanding of the role of digital content and storytelling within the Bank’s mission and communications strategy.

Create short‑form video content (LinkedIn videos, YouTube Shorts, etc) from concept, scripting, filming, and editing to final packaging.

Produce static and animated graphics, and propose channel-appropriate content formats, for social media, intranet features, and support digital campaigns.

Help build out a digital content library with content formatted for the Bank’s various channels.

Support content planning by pitching creative ideas and helping maintain the social content calendar.

Draft captions, scripts, and supporting copy that reflects strong writing fundamentals and narrative clarity.

Work efficiently within a VDI‑based content creation environment using approved tools and workflows.

Adapt creative output to meet compliance, legal, brand, and leadership review requirements.

Capture light onsite footage (employee highlights, b‑roll, event snippets) when needed.

Maintain organized project files and document work according to departmental guidelines.

Support additional Community Investment Department (CID) projects as assigned, including digital asset management or storytelling initiatives.

Requirements

Upper‑class undergraduate or graduate student studying liberal arts & sciences, marketing, journalism, design, political science/government, or related academic field.

Strong writing, storytelling, and communication abilities.

Demonstrated experience running or producing content for at least one social media channel (e.g., TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn) — school organizations, curated personal channels, freelance work, or internships qualify.

Ability to share sample work or describe at least one project you created.

Experience with video editing tools (Adobe Premiere, CapCut, Canva, or similar).

Ability to adapt creativity to a compliance‑heavy and brand‑regulated environment.

Awareness of social media trends and curiosity to adapt them appropriately for a B2B audience.

Ability to manage deadlines, collaborate, and remain open to editorial feedback.

Organized, detail‑oriented, and proactive, with strong time‑management skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred

Candidates graduating in 2026

Familiarity with content accessibility standards (e.g., captioning, alt text).

Comfort balancing creativity with structure and formal review processes.
