Clean Energy Committee (CEC) Member

There are 4 positions open for students to serve the campus community by allocating funds for clean energy project. Background of the Clean Energy Committee:

The mission of the Clean Energy Committee is to support the success of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and resource conservation at Evergreen. We carry the responsibility of representing the interest of the student body as we appropriate the Clean Energy Fund. The fund is designated to offset 100% of the electricity used by Evergreen through renewable energy credits. The committee allocates the remaining fund to students, staff and faculty with goals of reducing the campus carbon footprint through research, education, or implementation. The Clean Energy Committee supports the creation of models for climate solutions through collaborative on-campus research.

POSITION DUTIES

PROJECT DIRECTOR

  • Communicate with Clean Energy funded project managers and provide progress updates to the committee
  • Support CEC chair by reviewing budget proposal applications and assisting with the budget submission process
  • Generate award letters for grant recipients
  • Provide an end of the year report, summary of projects funded
  • Serve as a voting member of the Clean Energy Committee
  • Perform tasks delegated by the Clean Energy Committee coordinator
  • Participate in ongoing Leadership Development opportunities offered by Student Activities

OUTREACH COORDINATOR

  • Write and publish articles about CEC activities in the student newspaper, committee website, quarterly newsletter, and other social networking services
  • Collaborate with committee members to speak with classes about CEC initiatives and funding opportunities
  • Update brochures and other publications
  • Assist the committee in recruiting budget proposals
  • Serve as a voting member of the Clean Energy Committee
  • Perform tasks delegated by the Chair
  • Participate in ongoing Leadership Development opportunities offered by Student Activities

INFO DESK COORDINATOR

  • Maintain the CEC website, including updating hearing dates
  • Organize the CEC Information Desk/workstation
  • Inform the committee on past awards and where CEC funds have been allocated
  • Assist other committee members with collecting or locating needed information
  • Check on a regular basis CEC email messages
  • Support other CEC organizational tasks as needed
  • Serve as a voting member of the Clean Energy Committee
  • Perform tasks delegated by the Chair
  • Participate in ongoing Leadership Development opportunities offered by Student Activities

SECRETARY/TREASURER

  • Keep an overview of the committee income and expenses
  • Present financial reports to the committee before hearings
  • Act as a liaison with the Assistant Director of Student Activities to access financial data
  • With the help of the Chair, produce a realistic operating budget which meets the committee's needs for the following year, to be submitted to the committee at the end of Spring quarter
  • Record minutes of meetings
  • Post agendas and minutes to the website in a timely manner
  • Serve as a voting member of the Clean Energy Committee
  • Perform tasks delegated by the Chair
  • Participate in ongoing Leadership Development opportunities offered by Student Activities

POSITION DETAILS

  • These are student leadership positions that receive a quarterly learning allotment of $700
  • Work Study is NOT required for this position. All are encouraged to apply.
  • The hourly commitment of the Clean Energy Committee is approximately 4 hours a week with weekly team meetings and monthly budget hearings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be a student at The Evergreen State College in good standing and enrolled for at least 6-credits
  • Ability to attend a regular meeting during college governance time: Mondays 1-3pm or Wednesdays 1-5pm (exact timing to be determined within those periods).
