QA New Model Engineer Intern


Basic Purpose:

Motivated engineering students will gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment by supporting QA New Model development, industrialization, and launch activities. The intern will work closely with the PPAP Team and cross-functional Engineering, Design, Manufacturing, and QA groups to assist with APQP/PPAP deliverables, dimensional and functional validation, and closure of open issues for new programs, products, process changes, and design changes—while developing practical skills with industry-standard metrology and test equipment. 

Ideal candidate will be in process of completing a BS in Mechanical Engineering and must have at least basic CAD experience.  Prior engineering related job experience is not required.

Basic Position Duties           

  • Assist with development and implementation for next-generation automated test and QA vision systems (concept evaluation, prototyping support, validation data collection, and documentation), partnering with lab operators to improve safety, repeatability, and throughput.
  • Support and interface with Engineering/Design/Manufacturing/QA teams on new product design, new programs, and product changes; support Open Issues meetings and program validation events.
  • Assist QA New Model Group and Cross Functional Team in new model launches.
  • Evaluate and improve current testing methods and processes.
  • Support in new product investigations through conducting Instron Machine testing (Tension & Compression tests), per automotive industry standards. (training included)
  • Assist with measurements, as needed, to internal drawing dimensions and tolerances using measuring microscopes and Keyence automatic measuring equipment. (training included)
  • Operate and maintain 3D printing technologies (PolyJet, FDM, SLS) as needed (training provided).
  • Provide APQP and PPAP preparation support, and new product launch validation.
  • Help prepare technical documentation and data packages for internal teams and external customer/OEM inquiries through product analysis and troubleshooting support.

 

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Technology (or related engineering major).
  • Basic CAD skills required (SolidWorks a plus).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, etc.).
  • Prior engineering work experience not required.

  • EQUIPMENT   – Keyence & Nikon Vision Systems
  • EQUIPMENT   – Instron Tensile Tester
  • 3D PRINTER   – Polyjet, FDM, and SLS 3D printers
