Accounting Intern (Summer)
Target: Current college students (Juniors/Seniors).
The focus is on exposure, data accuracy, and learning the flow of a corporate finance team.
Overview:
Faber is looking for an enthusiastic Accounting Intern to join our Finance Team in Secaucus, NJ this summer. This role offers hands-on experience in a high-growth environment, providing a front-row seat to the monthly closing cycle and corporate financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Learning & Shadowing: Observe the month-end close process and learn how journal entries are structured and posted.
- Data Verification: Assist in reconciling bank statements and credit card transactions against internal records.
- Administrative Support: Help organize fixed asset documentation and assist with the filing of sales tax returns.
- Department Liaison: Work alongside the Accounts Payable team to learn proper coding and vendor management.
- Process Improvement: Participate in team meetings and help identify areas for digital filing or process streamlining.
- Audit Prep: Help pull and organize "samples" and supporting schedules for audit activities.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Junior or Senior standing preferred).
- Strong interest in entrepreneurship and retail industries.
- Basic understanding of Accounting principles (from coursework).
- Highly organized with the ability to meet deadlines for specific tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a quick learner of new software (Microsoft Dynamics 365).
Technical Skills Training:
- Software Mastery: Specialized training in the accounting platform like Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central moving beyond basic classroom knowledge.
- Advanced Spreadsheet Usage: Instruction on the firm’s specific Excel templates, naming conventions, and complex financial modeling techniques.
Progressive Professional Development:
- Shadowing: Opportunities for the intern to observe experienced staff during client meetings, audits, or month-end closes.
- Process-Oriented Tasks: Hands-on training for reconciliations, journal entries, and preparing financial statements under direct supervision.
- Soft Skill Coaching: Direct feedback on professional communication, time management, and ethical handling of sensitive data.
Mentorship & Feedback:
A dedicated support system is essential for a high-quality internship:
- Buddy/Navigator System: Pairing the intern with a "buddy"—often a junior staff member—who can answer informal, day-to-day questions.
- Regular Check-ins: Scheduled meetings with a supervisor to discuss progress, troubleshoot challenges, and review learning objectives.
