Bread Coffeehouse Resident Job Description
Job Summary:
Bread Ministry Residents are the heart and soul of Bread communities. They are often closer in age to current students, live in the campus house, and enjoy the trust and friendship of students. They serve the team and students in various ways in order to model the ways of Jesus and invite students to pursue following Him in the context of community.
Qualifications:
- Is in agreement with Bread Coffeehouse’s statement of belief, mission, core values, behavioral covenant and philosophy of ministry.
- Is eager to learn, humble, and open to feedback.
- Demonstrates an ability to take self-initiative.
- Has a college degree and previous involvement in campus ministry.
Ministry Responsibilities:
Residents will engage local college students with relational ministry in order to share the Gospel.
Each Resident will be given a target group on which to focus their time and energy.
- Residents will be used to reach out to new students and to minister to returning students.
- Residents will be present on campus apart from regularly scheduled programs to meet students and faculty and to become fully immersed in the rhythms of the university.
- Residents will be emotionally available and stable for students, as well as supportive and understanding.
- Residents will perform administrative duties necessary for the ministry.
- Each Resident will meet with the Resident Coordinator weekly for spiritual/ministerial formation.
- Residents are expected to attend ALL Bread events (including Love in Action & special weekend activities).
- Residents will perform cooking, cleaning, and coffeehouse tasks throughout the day and at events.
- Each Resident must attend a church regularly and bring students to church with them.
Goals of the Residency:
- Residents will understand the ins and outs of campus ministry.
- They will be able to see how their strengths and passions affect and impact students.
- They will learn the role of servant leadership within a ministry setting.
- They will know definitely whether or not they would like to continue in campus ministry after their commitment is over.
- They will have a stronger relationship with Jesus when they end the residency than when they started.
Organizational Relationship & Expectations:
- Residents report to the Resident Coordinator at the location where they serve. The Resident Coordinator reports to the Team Leader.
- Residents must develop ministry partnerships that provide their salary throughout the year. Partner development coaching, training and materials are provided ahead of the residency. It is expected that residents will reach their funding goal by the start of the residency in August.
- Residents will communicate positively and effectively with students, partners and teammates.
- Resident development occurs before the beginning of the residency, including partner development training, personal development, and summer training opportunities.
- The residency begins early August & ends late-May. Work schedules loosely follow the University Schedule August through May with a few exceptions which will be determined by each campus’ Team Lead based on training needs and special events (service trips, etc.)
- Residents will work approximately 50 hours per week, with 5 of those hours being during the weekend. Special weekend events will require more. Weekly schedules are determined by the Resident Coordinator at each location.
- Days off are determined by location and announced by the Team Lead.
