City Legislative And Community Affairs Intern

OTI is currently seeking a City Legislative and Community Affairs Intern who will work collaboratively with the Intergovernmental  Affairs team within the Legal Matters division. The Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA) team is the primary unit for liaising with other city agencies and the Mayor’s Office on legislative actions. The team also serves as the primary unit for engagement with elected officials and other government offices/entities. IGA is responsible for drafting legislative testimony; preparing the CTO and Executive Staff for hearings; analyzing new bills and developing OTI divisional strategies regarding legislative actions; facilitating city public comments on public policy/rules; and supporting OTI divisions on grant and discretionary appropriations funding and elected official stakeholder support.

 

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the [City Legislative and Community Affairs Intern] include but are not limited to: 

 

  • Monitoring of and policy research relating to City legislation that concerns OTI, including: local law introductions, resolutions and hearings in the NYC Council;
  • Intake and assistance with handling communications and inquiries from elected officials and other governmental and external entities, including letter, e-mail, phone, and e-mail correspondence;
  • Expand OTI’s relationships with Community Boards and other external organizations within New York City;
  • Assist in the formulation and execution of public outreach strategies relating to key program areas, including broadband, cybersecurity, and more, as needed.

 

 

Qualifications & Requirements:  

  • The candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate Baccalaureate degree program in Political Science, Urban Planning, History, Public Administration, Communications or a related field. 

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Interest and/or experience in local government and politics, public administration, or technology policy;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.
