Summer Instructor - Educational Talent Search (ETS)
Job Summary
Instruct middle school and/or high school participants in academic and enrichment activities during a six-week summer program. Support student development through engaging instruction, mentorship, and supervision in a structured summer learning environment.
Essential Functions
- Deliver instruction to middle school and/or high school participants in academic or enrichment courses
- Facilitate engaging classroom and program activities that support student learning and development
- Supervise and mentor students throughout program activities
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure a positive and productive learning environment
Eligibility
- Rising juniors or seniors as of June 1, 2026
Preferred Experience
- Participation in TRIO programs (TRIO experience strongly preferred)
- Experience serving as a peer mentor, tutor, or staff member in TRIO-funded initiatives
- Experience working with middle school and/or high school students
- Experience supporting first-generation and/or low-income student populations
Required Qualifications
- Enrollment in an approved University of Akron School of Education licensure program in one of the following areas:
- Middle Level Education (Grades 4–9)
- Secondary Education (Adolescent to Young Adult – AYA; Grades 7–12)
- English/Language Arts, Mathematics, or Science
- Valid Ohio Pre-Service Permit (PSP), maintained throughout the duration of the program
- Faculty letter of support verifying:
- Strong academic standing and professionalism
- Experience working with first-generation and/or low-income students
- Readiness to teach in a summer enrichment environment
Physical Requirements
Moderate physical effort required, including extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
Standard working environment with potential for occasional noise and crowded conditions. Frequent use of a computer or video display terminal.
