Director of Behavioral Health
Director of Behavioral Health reports directly to the Executive Director and has the primary responsibility of developing, planning, and supervising all clinical services, to include mental health services, to improve quality of life for U.S.VETS clients. The DBH is responsible for overall leadership of the Program Coordinators, development and management of psychological, social work, and ancillary therapies provided within U.S.VETS’ outpatient services.
Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains quality standards for client care in mental health, addiction treatment, and health promotion services.
- Ensures appropriate protocols for continuous quality improvement are implemented and monitors compliance with established standards for outpatient mental health and substance use services.
- Plans, develops, and oversees new program initiatives; collaborates on funding strategies to secure and sustain program operations.
- Provides consultation and guidance to program staff, including availability for on-call support as required.
- Oversees recruitment, staffing, and clinical coverage to ensure adequate service delivery and 24-hour support for clients.
- Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Clinical Administrative Coordinator(s), Program Coordinators, and Licensed Clinical Therapists.
- Directs and manages the internship program, including task assignment, supervision, and compliance with university and licensing board requirements.
- Establishes and monitors performance and competency standards across all clinical programs.
- Develops and implements individual and group supervision schedules in accordance with organizational standards.
- Conducts and documents supervision for clinical and administrative staff, ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Oversees clinical billing processes to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and U.S.VETS policies.
- Maintains communication and reporting with funding agencies and external partners; fosters collaborative stakeholder relationships.
- Ensures ongoing professional development and maintains records of continuing education.
- Leads quality assurance, program evaluation, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Facilitates weekly clinical and case management meetings.
- Oversees curriculum development and implementation for psychoeducational, mental health, and substance use treatment services.
- Assumes responsibilities of the Clinical Administrative Coordinator during absences or vacancies, either directly or through delegation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in social services or a related field required.
- Current independent clinical licensure preferred; in lieu of licensure, a minimum of five (5) years of executive-level clinical leadership experience at U.S.VETS may be considered.
- Minimum of three (3) years of management experience overseeing multiple programs and staff.
- Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer systems and information management tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively engage with clients, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Knowledge of veteran services and experience working with veteran populations preferred.
- Ability to travel locally between program sites and periodically for national meetings or training.
- Valid driver’s license preferred; must meet company insurance requirements and complete required driver training if operating company vehicles.
