Associate Chemist

Shift: 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM | 12-hour alternative shifts

Join the global leader in nutrition, health, and wellness as an Associate Chemist at our Fremont, MI, Research and Innovation Lab. In this critical 5-month contract role, you will be at the forefront of food safety and quality, ensuring our products meet the highest global standards. This isn't just a bench role; you will be a guardian of compliance, performing high-impact analytical testing and method validation that directly influences product integrity. Operating on a 12-hour alternative night shift (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM), this position offers a fast-paced environment for a disciplined scientist who thrives on autonomy and technical precision.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES

Analytical Testing: Perform routine and complex laboratory analyses, including titrations, pH measurements, and HPLC, to ensure product quality and safety.

Method Validation & Innovation: Research, develop, and implement new analytical methodologies; conduct method validations and verifications to keep the lab at the cutting edge.

Compliance & Quality Systems: Maintain strict adherence to laboratory compliance systems; create or revise work instructions and logbooks to ensure alignment with global standards.

Data Interpretation: Utilize critical thinking to troubleshoot instrument abnormalities and interpret data trends to assist with Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).

Operational Excellence: Perform peer reviews of laboratory data, manage control charting (Excel/QStat), and conduct investigations into out-of-specification (OOS) results.

Instrument Stewardship: Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on sophisticated laboratory instrumentation to ensure zero downtime.

Qualifications

Required:

Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry, Food Science, or a closely related scientific discipline.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in basic analytical chemistry techniques, specifically titrations, pH measurement, and HPLC.

Data Literacy: Strong competency in Excel for data summary, charting, and report generation.

Operational Flexibility: Ability to work a consistent 12-hour alternative shift (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM) on-site in Fremont, MI.

Preferred:

Prior experience in a GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) or ISO-certified laboratory environment.

Experience with method development or validation protocols.

Familiarity with Food Science safety standards and contaminant testing.
