Intern - Legal

 

 

Introduction

Socure is a leading platform using predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning for online identity verification and fraud prevention. Socure’s Privacy Legal team maintains the highest standards of privacy and data protection for our customers and their end users. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated law student to join our Legal team as a Privacy Intern for Summer 2026. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in privacy law and make a meaningful impact on our organization’s privacy initiatives. The internship is fully remote, requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, and is compensated at $20.83 per hour based on a 12-week internship. Start and end dates are flexible.

Responsibilities

As a Privacy Intern, you will work closely with our legal team, playing a pivotal role in supporting our privacy compliance efforts. Your responsibilities may include:

Research and Analysis: Conduct research on U.S., international (e.g., GDPR), and sectoral privacy laws, including emerging guidance on AI, automated systems, and age verification. Analyze the impact of these developments on company operations and product design.

Privacy Policy and Notice Support: Assist in reviewing and revising global privacy policies, product-specific notices, and related FAQs, including work on biometrics consents, children's privacy, and international data transfer agreements.

Privacy by Design and by Default: Provide risk-based guidance to product teams to incorporate privacy best practices (data minimization, transparency, fairness) throughout the product development lifecycle.

Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs): Participate in assessing privacy implications for new projects, products, or services (e.g., AI-enabled capabilities, biometrics) and help develop mitigation strategies for identified risks.

Data Subject Requests (DSRs): Manage DSRs (access, deletion, objection) for timely, compliant responses and help refine internal playbooks and documentation in coordination with cross-functional teams.

Vendor Due Diligence: Review and analyze privacy risks associated with third-party vendors handling personal information, assisting with the evaluation of data-use terms, transfer mechanisms, and security/privacy controls.

 

 

Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product, engineering, compliance, and security teams to operationalize legal guidance and support a holistic approach to privacy and data protection through documentation, SOPs, and training.

Legal Support: Provide general legal support, including contract review and legal research on various topics based on business need and candidate interest (e.g., intellectual property, commercial contracts, corporate development).

 

Qualifications

● Enrolled in an accredited law school program.

● Strong interest in privacy and data protection laws and regulations, including CCPA and GDPR.

● Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.

● Detail-oriented and able to work independently.

● Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

● Proficiency in Google Suite, Generative AI, and legal research tools.

 

Writing Sample

Each quarter, the Privacy Legal team provides a newsletter to senior leaders across the company, including Executives, Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, Designers, Sales, and Marketing teams. The newsletter focuses on interesting and/or impactful developments in privacy, consumer protection, or AI legislation, regulation, or enforcement.

In 150 words or less, please write a paragraph suitable for the newsletter that discusses an interesting or impactful development in privacy, consumer protection, age assurance, AI, or data protection occurring within the past three months. Please note that we are not looking for other writing samples and following this instruction is important for consideration.
