Position Title: Electric Boat Fellow

Fellowship Term: 11 weeks | Tuesday – Friday | June 10 – August 19, 2026 | Mandatory June 6 summer program training

Location: Mystic Aquarium, Mystic, Connecticut

Compensation: $6,500 stipend

Position Overview:

Mystic Aquarium, in collaboration with Electric Boat, invites dynamic and driven individuals to apply for a summer fellowship focused on environmental education, sustainability, animal care and wellbeing, and public engagement. Over the course of eleven immersive weeks, three fellows will work alongside seasoned professionals from Electric Boat and in Mystic Aquarium’s Education & Conservation, Animal Care, and Exhibits departments.

This unique fellowship offers hands-on learning through the creation of interactive public displays that weave together submarine manufacturing and ocean conservation themes. Fellows will gain valuable experience in communicating science to diverse audiences, enhancing animal welfare, and supporting impactful conservation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and present educational tabletop activities linking marine conservation to submarine technology and related topics.

Support the delivery of summer conservation and educational programming to the public.

Contribute to the animal enrichment and wellbeing programs.

Engage with staff mentors and participate in cross-departmental learning opportunities.

Fellows will be immersed in Mystic Aquarium’s broader internship program, providing the invaluable opportunity to connect with a diverse network of peers, gain exposure to multiple areas and content, and engage with experts across the organization. This experience will expand the Fellows professional horizons, deepen understanding of marine science and conservation, and foster meaningful connections that can shape future careers.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Passionate about environmental stewardship, sustainability, and marine conservation.

Desire to develop mentorship skills 

Skilled in public speaking and comfortable interacting with diverse audiences.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or technical platforms.

Strong writers and keen observers, able to think creatively and work independently.

Team-oriented, curious, and committed to making a positive impact.
