STEM Elementary Teacher

Job Title: STEM Elementary Teacher
Location: Somerset Parkland Academy
Reports To: Principal
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Position Summary

The STEM Elementary Teacher designs and delivers engaging, inquiry-based instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics for students in grades K–5. This role emphasizes hands-on learning, critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world problem solving while integrating literacy and social-emotional learning.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver standards-based STEM lessons aligned to [state standards/NGSS/Common Core].
  • Use inquiry-based, project-based, and problem-based learning approaches.
  • Integrate technology, coding, and engineering design challenges appropriate to elementary learners.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including English learners and students with IEPs/504 plans.
  • Incorporate cross-curricular connections (e.g., math in science projects, literacy in research and presentations).

Learning Environment

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom that encourages curiosity and risk-taking in learning.
  • Manage classroom routines and behavior using positive, consistent strategies.
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork through group projects and lab activities.
  • Coordinate with media/technology specialists and support staff to enhance STEM learning.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
  • Valid [State] Teaching Certificate/License in Elementary Education (or eligible for certification).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary STEM content and pedagogy.
  • Experience using educational technology (e.g., interactive whiteboards, tablets, online learning platforms).

Preferred:

  • Endorsement or coursework in STEM, Math, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience with project-based learning, makerspaces, or robotics/coding platforms (e.g., Scratch, LEGO Education, micro:bit).
  • Prior successful teaching experience in an elementary setting.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a typical school classroom and lab environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and facilitate activities for extended periods.
