JOB POSTING: CIVIL ENGINEERING INTERN – STRUCTURES, HIGHWAYS, ENVIRONMENTAL, & UTLITIES

We are seeking Civil Engineering Interns who will work on New Jersey structures, highways, and utilities design projects at our office in Morristown. NV5’s Morristown Office operates on a four-day work week. The internship will be a paid internship.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Civil Engineering Intern will engage in research, investigation, and design tasks related to structural, highways, environmental, and utility designs for Private and Public agencies. This may include:

 

  • Determining creative and innovative methods and solutions for complex road, highway, or structural engineering problems and select the most efficient and economical manner to achieve objectives
  • Assuring that the designs are in accordance with approved Federal, State and local agency requirements as well as following accepted industry practices and procedures
  • Perform basic engineering calculations
  • Utilize various CAD software to prepare sketches and drawings
  • Assist Engineers with broader engineering activities
  • Work will include a mixture of field and office assignments
  • Review Shop Drawings, Cost Estimates and Specifications
  • Field work for data gathering, environmental surveys and construction observations

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Prior transportation, civil, or structural engineering coursework
  • Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a Civil or Structural Engineering related field from an accredited college with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
  • Interest and ability to explore multiple engineering disciplines 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of CAD, Civil3D and/or Microstation (a plus)
  • Detailed oriented, excellent writing skills, critical thinking
