Lead Abatement Project Coordinator

Winnebago County is seeking a Lead Abatement Project Coordinator to join our Public Health Department. This full-time position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (40 hours per week).

Job Summary

This role coordinates activities aimed at reducing or eliminating lead exposure and other housing-related health hazards. Responsibilities include overseeing lead hazard reduction and Healthy Homes programming in compliance with grant requirements, managing program-related grants, ensuring regulatory compliance, and completing required reporting. This position plays a key role in advancing public health by promoting safe, healthy, and affordable housing for children and families in our community.

Essential Duties

  • Develops, promotes, and oversees polices, grants, and interventions related to lead hazard reduction, healthy homes, and unintentional injury prevention in eligible properties in compliance with any associated grants.
  • Develops, maintains, and expands the lead hazard control and abatement contractor base; develops and maintains relevant community partner relationships for the purpose of the conduction of lead abatement activities and recruits eligible properties into the lead hazard, healthy homes and unintentional injury prevention programs.
  • Conducts lead hazard inspections and risk assessments, develops and issues lead abatement orders, solicits contractor bidding, assures family safety and relocation during lead hazard remediation, monitors contractor performance, and conducts lead hazard clearance.

Education & Experience

Applicant will meet or exceed one of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, environmental health, public health, urban planning, or closely related field and one year of experience in a related field, preferably in construction management, residential rehabilitation, building/home inspection, or lead risk management.
  • Associate’s degree and 2 years of experience in a related field, preferably in construction management, residential rehabilitation, building/home inspection, or lead risk management.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience in a related field, preferably in construction management, residential rehabilitation, building/home inspection, or lead risk management.

Certification

Certified, or the ability to become certified, as a State of Wisconsin lead hazard inspector, risk assessor, and lead abatement supervisor, within 6 months of hire.
