The White House Historical Association, a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the Executive Mansion, is seeking a part-time summer Marketing Intern to support the work of the Marketing, Communications, and Engagement department. This intern will work closely with the Vice President of Marketing, Communications, and Engagement and the Director of Marketing, in addition to coordinating with the Retail team to assist with marketing operations, production timelines, and promotional efforts for the Association’s mission-driven retail products—including the Official White House Christmas Ornament.

This position is ideal for a highly organized, creative, and motivated individual looking to gain hands-on experience in marketing, retail promotion, catalog development, and multi-channel campaign execution.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing & Retail Support

  • Assist with the development and organization of marketing collateral, including catalogs, postcards, signage, email content, and digital assets.
  • Draft initial copy for email campaigns, retail announcements, product highlights, and promotional messages.
  • Support multi-channel campaign execution (print, email, SMS, digital) by helping track deadlines, updating project calendars, and preparing assets for review.
  • Coordinate with the Retail team on product information, timelines, and approvals.

Catalog Production

  • Support the catalog production process by gathering product details, coordinating imagery, organizing content, and managing version tracking.
  • Maintain catalog schedules, production checklists, and communication between internal teams and external vendors.
  • Assist with proofing catalog drafts for accuracy, consistency, and brand alignment.

Project Coordination & Operations

  • Maintain project timelines and ensure deadlines are met across marketing initiatives.
  • Help organize, maintain, and segment mailing lists, and prepare files for direct mail campaigns.
  • Assist with vendor coordination by gathering specifications, sending files, or tracking delivery of assets as needed.
  • Support basic reporting tasks by compiling performance metrics or organizing data provided by senior staff.

Administrative & Organizational Tasks

  • Organize digital files, asset libraries, and project folders for easy team access.
  • Support general day-to-day tasks for the Marketing team as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Rising college junior, senior or recent graduate studying Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; able to draft clear, compelling copy.
  • Detail-oriented with strong proofreading and quality-control habits.
  • Interest in retail marketing, catalog production, or direct-to-consumer marketing.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office; familiarity with CRM platforms (Salesforce) is a plus.
  • Creative, collaborative, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for history, museums, or mission-driven organizations preferred.

Internship Details:

  • Hours: Part-time, 20 hours per week
  • Reports to: Director of Marketing
  • Location: On-site; Intern must be able to work at our office in downtown Washington, D.C. Housing accommodations are not provided.
  • Compensation: Minimum wage
  • Duration: Summer, 10-12 weeks, with possibility of extension for fall
