Investment Banking Summer Internship
Overview
Edward Wolfe is seeking highly motivated and ambitious college students to join our four-year summer internship program, designed to provide hands-on experience across multiple facets of the financial industry. This paid, in-person internship offers 10-12 weeks of immersive training each summer at our Reston, VA office. Interns will have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of investment banking, capital management, and hedge fund operations, concluding the internship program with a comprehensive, integrated experience that combines all fields.
Program Structure
Year 1: Investment Banking – Deal Execution & Financial Advisory
In the first year, interns will be introduced to investment banking and gain hands-on experience supporting corporate finance and advisory services. Key areas of learning include:
- Conducting financial modeling, company valuation, and M&A analysis.
- Assisting in due diligence processes for mergers, acquisitions, and capital raises.
- Developing pitch decks and investment memorandums for potential deals.
- Understanding debt and equity financing structures.
- Participating in client interactions alongside senior managers.
Year 2: Hedge Fund and Capital Management Division – Investment Research & Risk Analysis
In the second year, interns will be introduced to hedge fund and capital management operations, with a focus on investment research, portfolio strategy, capital allocation, and risk analysis. Interns will gain exposure to real-world investment decision-making and develop a strong foundation in portfolio management. Key areas of focus include:
- Understanding market structures, trading strategies, and financial instruments across various asset classes.
- Conducting in-depth research on equities, fixed income, derivatives, and alternative investments.
- Applying fundamental and technical analysis to support data-driven investment decisions.
- Assisting with portfolio construction, capital allocation, and risk management.
- Utilizing the Bloomberg Terminal for market analysis and trend monitoring.
Year 3: Integrated Experience – Hedge Fund, Capital Management & Investment Banking
In the third year, interns will engage in a hybrid experience that combines hedge fund, capital management, and investment banking functions. Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing how hedge funds assess opportunities across public and private markets.
- Evaluating corporate transactions and their impact on investment portfolios.
- Exploring distressed assets, leveraged buyouts, and special situations investing.
- Conducting advanced financial modeling for both investment analysis and corporate finance purposes.
- Gaining exposure to portfolio construction, capital deployment, and risk evaluation from both an advisory and investment perspective.
Year 4: Onboarding & Professional Development
During the final summer, interns will transition into full-time professionals, refining their expertise while taking on increased responsibilities. This includes:
- Leading research projects and financial analysis for live deals or investment strategies.
- Working directly with senior leadership to provide strategic insights.
- Overseeing junior interns by providing guidance and supporting project execution.
- Gaining mentorship and professional development support to transition into a full-time role.
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate student majoring in finance, economics, business, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
- Prior finance experience or coursework (preferred but not required).

- 9:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday
