Seasonal Museum Docent
Are you a history buff? If so – we have a great summer job for you in Montauk!
The Montauk Historical Society will be celebrating America's 250th birthday with an immersive exhibition in our beautiful, restored Second House Museum, Montauk's oldest dwelling. Docents will dress in authentic reproductions of 18th century outfits and tell visitors all about what went on here during the Revolutionary War, when the British occupied Long Island, the Montauketts outnumbered European settlers, and there were thousands more farm animals roaming around than there were human residents.
We are looking for seasonal employees to greet visitors to the exhibition, collect admission, and staff the gift shop. These employees will be able to learn historic facts and then share them as if they had lived through them personally. They will treat all visitors with courtesy and attention regardless of age, race, religion, gender identity, etc. Theatre, history, art and education majors are especially encouraged to apply! If you enjoy meeting people of all ages and like the idea of representing someone of a different era, we want to hear from you.
