MTSS Coordinator & School Improvement Coordinator

Position: MTSS & School Improvement Coordinator

Reports to: Building Principals

Terms of Employment: Full-time, GRANT FUNDED

2026-27 School Year

 

Job Summary

The K–12 MTSS Coordinator serves in an advisory capacity to district and building administration, supporting the design, coherence, and implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) aligned with the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP). This role focuses on strengthening systems, not managing personnel, by ensuring that district initiatives, data use, and instructional supports are aligned, sustainable, and responsive to student needs.

Required Experience     

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate
  • Minimum of 5 years successful classroom teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to support diverse learners, including intervention and differentiation
  • Minimum of 3 years administrative experience (building or district level)
  • Experience with school improvement planning, MTSS, or related systems
  • Demonstrated experience with MTSS implementation
  • Evidence of designing, supporting, or refining Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 systems
  • Experience with Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP) or equivalent continuous improvement framework
  • Direct involvement in needs assessment, goal setting, strategy selection, and progress monitoring

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working across multiple grade levels (elementary and secondary)
  • Experience aligning academic and behavioral systems within MTSS
  • Experience supporting or coordinating federal or state programs (e.g., Title I, Title II, 31a)
  • Experience facilitating professional learning or leading adult teams
  • Experience using district-level data systems to inform decisions and monitor outcomes

Responsibilities:

Systems Coherence and Implementation

  • Support the development, articulation, and continuous refinement of district MTSS and MICIP processes
  • Ensure alignment between district goals, building practices, and classroom implementation
  • Assist administration in identifying gaps between intended systems and actual practice
  • Provide guidance on the integration of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports within MTSS

Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP)

  • Support district and building leaders in the implementation and monitoring of MICIP plans
  • Assist in the use of data to inform needs assessments, goal setting, and progress monitoring
  • Help ensure that improvement strategies are implemented with fidelity and adjusted based on evidence
  • Facilitate structures that connect MICIP planning to day-to-day instructional practice

MTSS Framework Development

  • Support the design and continuous improvement of a K–12 MTSS framework
  • Assist in establishing clear expectations for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports across the district
  • Promote consistent use of data protocols and intervention systems
  • Work with administration to ensure equitable access to interventions and supports

Federal and State Initiatives

  • Ensure alignment of MTSS and MICIP work with state and federal requirements
  • Collaborate with district leadership on the coordination of non-consolidated federal grants to support MTSS priorities
  • Support compliance by connecting funding, programming, and documented need
  • Provide guidance on the implementation of state and federal educational initiatives

Professional Learning and Capacity Building

  • Support the planning and alignment of professional development related to MTSS and MICIP
  • Assist in building staff capacity around data use, intervention practices, and system implementation
  • Facilitate or support district-level learning structures when appropriate
  • Promote clarity and consistency in expectations across buildings

Communication and Leadership Support

  • Serve as a resource to administrators on MTSS and MICIP-related decision-making
  • Represent the district in regional or state-level meetings related to curriculum, MTSS, or continuous improvement
  • Support clear communication of district systems and expectations to staff
  • Help maintain focus on long-term system effectiveness over short-term fixes

  • Builds trust and influences others effectively without direct supervisory authority
  • Communicates complex processes clearly and aligns expectations across buildings and teams
  • Focuses on prevention by strengthening routines, expectations, and classroom systems
