Business Development Intern (Fintech)

Surlamer Investments is a Newport Beach-based private investment firm with a portfolio spanning algorithmic hedge funds, public markets, and technology-based private ventures.

We are incubating a FinTech startup at the intersection of AI and public markets, developing tools that give private investors institutional-grade decision-making capabilities through large language models (LLMs) and advanced algorithms. 

The successful candidate will possess a deep passion for sales, an outgoing personality that thrives on building relationships, an analytical mindset, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. They should be comfortable initiating conversations, delivering compelling pitches, and effectively communicating with a wide range of stakeholders.

Program:

  • Job Type: Internship
  • Pay: $35/hour
  • Length: 10 weeks (Summer) | Potential for longer-term in the future
  • Time Commitment: 40 hours/week

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver compelling sales presentations, including pitch decks, product demos, and client-facing meetings
  • Conduct market, user, and competitor research to inform sales strategy and positioning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights, refine platform functionality, and improve user experience 
  • Actively manage and nurture leads through consistent outreach, follow-ups, and conversion-focused workflows
  • Own and optimize digital marketing campaigns across paid channels (e.g., Google Ads, LinkedIn) to drive lead generation
  • Support SEO efforts, including keyword research and content optimization, to improve organic visibility and traffic
  • Analyze sales pipeline and funnel performance, and iterate based on data-driven insights
  • Drive outbound and inbound sales efforts, including cold outreach, lead qualification, and client relationship management
  • Present findings, insights, and recommendations to internal stakeholders and leadership teams

Qualifications

  • Soon-to-be or recent graduate with a background or coursework in business, marketing, finance, statistics, or a related field
  • Familiarity with LLM tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) 
  • Strong understanding of performance marketing, including SEO, paid media, funnel optimization, and KPI tracking
  • Familiarity with financial markets and hands-on experience using trading or financial platforms (required)
  • Exposure to Bloomberg or similar financial data platforms (strongly preferred)
  • Must be able to work on-site in Newport Beach
