Interns at Santee Lakes will support a wide range of park operations – from routine daily tasks and park maintenance to special projects, events and community engagement. Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve is owned and operated by Padre Dam Municipal Water District. This 190-acre park is situated in the hills of East County, San Diego and includes 300 camping spots, 10 cabins, and 7 beautiful manmade lakes. With over 700,000 guests visiting each year, Santee Lakes offers a dynamic and rewarding working environment for our Park and Recreation team.
Essential Duties:

Environmental
- Support a robust ecosystem through lake and land management strategies
- Assist in fishery and habitat protection and restoration
- Support in invasive plant removal
- Document and report on vegetation, trees, and wildlife

Hospitality
- Support guest services
- Assist in event coordination and execution
- Assist in boat dock operations
- Support gate house services

Communication and Marketing
- Create digital and written content
- Assist in development of marketing materials
- Assist with event programming and support
- Contribute to the production and distribution of marketing materials

Park Operations
- Assist in enforcing rules and regulations
- Participate in special projects and repairs
- Provide general support to Park and Recreation Team
Knowledge, Skills, Training, Experience & Licensing:
Knowledge:
- Common public relations courtesies, practices and techniques
Skills:
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions
Training and Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) preferred
- Applicants enrolled or a recent graduate in an Environmental Science, Park & Recreation, Hospitality, or Marketing and Communications program at a community college, technical school, or accredited postsecondary education institution.
- 6 months part-time or volunteer experience working with the public preferred
Licensing Requirements:
- Valid California Driver’s License
- C.P.R. and First Aid preferred
