Graduate Assistantship: Assistant Resident Dean (ARD)

Position Title: Assistant Resident Dean (ARD)

Department: Residential Life

 

Job Summary: As a live-in staff, the ARD is responsible for the supervision of designated residential areas under the guidance of the Resident Dean of Chumley/Bridges. The ARD works to create an inclusive residential environment that fosters student development, academic achievement, and the development of a safe healthy and respectful community. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Assist the Chumley/Bridges RD with Residential Management in the following: 

-Manage operational and administrative responsibilities that include hall preparation, closing processes, key management, maintenance requests, and all reporting associated with these processes.

-Create an inclusive educational living and learning environment consistent with the mission and philosophy of the department, the division, and the college. 

 

Assist the Chumley/Bridges RD with Supervision and Programmatic Management in the following: 

-Provide shared supervision of the Chumley/Bridges area

-Maintain regular office hours for student support (academic, skill building, conflict resolution, mental health, etc)

-Participate in the training and planning evaluation of the Resident Assistant staff. Provide direct supervision to RAs assigned to your area. 

-Participate in Hall Meetings and Health & Safety inspections process on a monthly basis.

-Assist in planning, administering, and evaluating various functions, programs, and services in the residential life area.

-Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Student and Community Development: 

-Assist with the facilitation and development of an upper-class program related to post commencement skills.

-Facilitate social and educational programming in the upper-class area.

-Facilitate intentional conversations with students around individual development and the challenges inherent in community living. 

-Assess and determines appropriate methods of intervention and resolution of various interpersonal and community problems in residence halls.

-Collaborate with members of the division to address individual student and programmatic needs. 

-Communicating information pertinent to personal and academic development of residents. 

 

Professional Development: 

-Attend and participate in regular residential life staff and division meetings. 

-Participate in Development Days and RA Training.

-Potential to shadow RD during On Call/ Duty Rotation.  

 

Days and Times needed: 

Typically Monday-Friday, shifts may vary based on time of the year and department need. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Example general shift: M-F 1 PM – 8 PM with an hour dinner break from 5 – 6 PM. ARD will work with RD to determine most effective weekly schedule.

 

Essential Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from Landmark College
  • Previous Residential Life experience or other student leadership preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students and RAs
  • Strong organizational skills to manage administrative tasks
  • Ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions in collaboration with RD and other ResLife staff
