Accountant I

EPB

JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant I will perform professional level financial accounting and reporting activities related to balance sheet and income statement activity. Prepares reports and financial documents, performs revenue and expense analysis, reconciles data to the general ledger, and performs other related duties as assigned. All work must be accomplished in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews, analyzes, and reports on financial data and activities. 
  • Reviews and analyzes the workflow of the accounts payable section to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and appropriateness of disbursements to vendors.
  • Works with other departments to resolve difficult, non-routine accounting activities
  • Researches, verifies and enters adjusting entries to the general ledger as required to correct postings to incorrect account numbers and/or jobs
  • Researches and prepares monthly journal entries
  • Researches, prepares and enters standard amortizations and recurring journal entries into the general ledger
  • Reviews and analyzes the setup of the accounting system and reports, including the setup of new divisions, products, etc.
  • Develops new procedures/workflows to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting
  • Keeps supervisor informed of unusual financial activities
  • Prepares, maintains or make entries to spreadsheets and databases as required to track expenses, collections, balances and other data
  • Participates in the compilation and preparation of monthly financial reports

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with Finance with successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours (or equivalent quarter hours) of accounting courses and 1-3 years related work experience and/or training.
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Strong qualitative, quantitative, and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated experience in processing data with a high degree of speed and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • Excel in a team environment.

  • Collect, process, analyze and organize large quantities of detailed information into logical, concise reports and/or presentations.
  • Obtain proficiency in the use of computerized software and office equipment.

  • Exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving a variety of duties which are often characterized by frequent changes.
  • Should enjoy taking on challenges and working in a collaborative environment and is accountable for the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of own work.

EPB provides electric and communications services, which are considered critical infrastructure by the Department of Homeland Security. This EPB job is essential to support this critical infrastructure and may be required to work onsite or in the field to maintain these services.
