System Security Engineer

Role: The System Security Engineer provides financial services of superior quality and convenience through assisting in the design, implementation, and ongoing testing and analysis of the network's security posture, encompassing hardware and software solutions both on premise and in the cloud. The position works closely with other IT staff to ensure the company network and all critical systems are properly defended against internal or external cyber-threats. The System Security Engineer collaborates with internal team members to provide user and system support and resolve underlying issues at a high level of service. This position is a critical member of the audit readiness team and is responsible for contribution to internal, independent, and NCUA audit processes.
 

Pay: The pay for this position is $88,512.03 annually.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with VP of IT, Operations and Infrastructure to ensure that all regulatory compliance requirements are met through the implementation and monitoring of users, networks, and security policies.
  • Recommends and administers network security through operating system controls and security applications.
  • Assists employees as second tier support for technical assistance in person, over the phone, via email, IM and through helpdesk software. Assists with support for network and application security service requests as well as troubleshooting connection issues that may or may not be related to IT security protocols.
  • Performs IT-security related functions to include system and user audits, SEIM management, InfoSec tool management, firewall and VPN support, single sign on (SSO) configuration and management, and other related and emerging cybersecurity trends.
  • Manage and oversee the mandatory InfoSecurity training and simulated phishing platform
  • Provide reporting on cybersecurity related events
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and operations teams to deliver on patching and maintenance of desktop operating systems, applications, servers, and cloud services
  • Be proactive in seeking new ways to solve cybersecurity related issues and challenges with minimal guidance
  • Resolves employee inquires by utilizing company policies. Researches and explores potential solutions to provide alternatives and coordinates with other IT staff and vendors to resolve issues with hardware, computer software and network problems. Follows escalation processes to direct employees to appropriate team member as needed.
  • Maintains clear channels of communication with supervisor and other staff at all times to facilitate efficient working environment.
  • Contributes to efficient Credit Union operations by performing other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of all Credit Union products, services, and promotions.

Qualifications

 

Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Three years to five years of similar or related progressive experience.  Experience having supported information gathering and independent audit processing in NCUA, ISO 27001.
Education:(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes and/or seasonal brightness through windows. This position may involve periodic stressful conditions. The Credit Unions business days are Monday through Saturday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; however, this position may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and to include evening/weekend hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
