Special Events and Communications Manager

Position: Special Events and Communications Manager 
Status: Exempt, Full-Time 
Reports to: Executive Director 
Supervises: One full-time staff member and one contracted position 

About KAFSC
The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering survivors of gender-based violence and other forms of family harm in the New York Tri-State area. Through counseling, advocacy, education, and supportive services, KAFSC helps adults, youth, and children build safe and healthy lives grounded in dignity, compassion, and mutual respect. 

Each year, more than 3,000 individuals benefit from KAFSC’s culturally responsive, linguistically accessible, and free services. KAFSC is committed to preventing and ending domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and relationship abuse while advancing safety, healing, and long-term empowerment for immigrant survivors and underserved communities. 

Position Summary
The Special Events and Communications Manager is a key member of KAFSC’s leadership team and plays an essential role in advancing the organization’s mission, visibility, and fundraising goals. Working closely with the Executive Director, this position leads the planning and execution of signature fundraising and donor engagement events, strengthens external communications, and helps grow KAFSC’s base of philanthropic support. 

This role requires a strategic, organized, and creative professional who can manage multiple priorities, communicate KAFSC’s impact with clarity and conviction, and build strong relationships with donors, board members, partners, and community stakeholders. 

Fundraising and Event Management 

  • Partner with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to plan and execute KAFSC’s signature fundraising events, including the annual gala and donor cultivation events 
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies to grow individual giving and strengthen donor engagement 
  • Help cultivate, steward, and maintain relationships with major donors, sponsors, and supporters 
  • Oversee event timelines, vendor coordination, logistics, budgets, sponsorship tracking, guest management, and follow-up communications 
  • Ensure timely and meaningful donor acknowledgments and stewardship activities in coordination with leadership and development staff 

Communications and External Relations 

  • Partner with the Executive Director to strengthen and maintain a cohesive organizational brand, voice, and visual identity 
  • Lead the development and implementation of communications strategies across print, digital, and social media platforms 
  • Oversee the creation of promotional materials, event collateral, campaign messaging, newsletters, and other external communications 
  • Help shape compelling storytelling that highlights KAFSC’s impact, mission, and community voice 
  • Support public-facing campaigns that expand visibility, deepen engagement, and increase philanthropic support 
  • Represent KAFSC at community events, meetings, and outreach opportunities as needed

Development Operations and Administration 

  • Help implement and maintain donor and grants management systems, including Salesforce, to ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and donor stewardship 
  • Monitor fundraising and event-related data, timelines, and deliverables to support strategic decision-making 
  • Work collaboratively across departments to gather impact stories, program updates, and other content for fundraising and communications purposes 
  • Provide administrative and operational support related to events, communications, and development initiatives as needed 
  • Supervise assigned staff and consultants, providing direction, coordination, and accountability for deliverables 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, communications, and/or event management 
  • Demonstrated success in planning and managing special events, including budget oversight and logistics coordination 
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey mission-driven work clearly and persuasively 
  • Experience with digital communications, social media, and project management systems 
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar donor database/CRM platforms strongly preferred 
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with board members, donors, community partners, and senior leadership 
  • Experience engaging high-net-worth individuals, sponsors, or major donors preferred 
  • Commitment to KAFSC’s mission and understanding of issues affecting immigrant communities and survivors of gender-based violence strongly preferred 
  • Bilingual in English and Korean preferred, but not required 
  • Availability to attend occasional evening and weekend events as needed

COMPENSATIONS AND BENEFITS 

  • Salary: $80,000 (Negotiable)
