Social Studies Teacher

Social Studies Teacher (Grades K-8)


Overview

Saint Edmond’s Academy, an all-boys Catholic, independent school seeks a creative and committed Social Studies teacher. Responsible for teaching students Social Studies, the upper form (grades 5-8) teacher will join a caring, highly qualified, and dedicated faculty whose mission is to develop boys of character in a community of faith by educating both the heart and the  mind of their students.  


Essential Responsibilities
 

  • Support the mission of Saint Edmond’s Academy, fostering the Catholic and Holy Cross identity of the school community.
  • Create a positive, nurturing classroom community.
  • Serve as a member of the upper form faculty
  • Design and implement a Social Studies curriculum that develops students' understanding of and appreciation for geography, history, civics and economics.
  • Develop and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that promotes student inquiry, active learning, citizenship, and effective oral and written communication through the content area.
  • Facilitate curriculum planning and mapping process for Social Studies.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to support all learners.
  • Maintain up-to-date grade books and lesson plans.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Admissions and Marketing to promote the school.
  • Attend school-wide events.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with families to provide progress updates.
  • Participate in school sponsored professional learning throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators and the school community.
  • Foster an atmosphere of respect, care, and community among the students.
  • Demonstrate a passion for elementary education and lifelong learning.
  • Assumes other duties as delegated by the Head of School and Principal

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, the content area, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of and passion for best educational practices.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications.  
  • Ability to independently plan and organize one’s own activities.
