Classical IPR Host/Music Librarian (Year-Round)
The person in this role hosts and produces daily and/or weekly on-air classical music programs, connecting classical music to life and events in northern Michigan, Interlochen’s vast alumni network and current and past events in history. They also manage IPR’s library of recorded classical music, including digitizing physical media such as CDs, reviewing and adding new commercial releases, and curating selections from Interlochen’s trove of archival student, faculty, and guest artist performances. They are also responsible for producing special programming, hosting live concert broadcasts, and conducting live and recorded interviews with guest artists. IPR maintains a frequent and dynamic presence in the northern MI community, and this person will attend public events to represent Classical IPR.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Program and host regular daily and/or weekday classical music on-air shift
- Manage Classical IPR’s music library, including cataloguing and digitizing new and existing commercial recordings as well as nearly a century of historic concert recordings from Interlochen’s archives
- Produce special programs such as live broadcasts from Interlochen’s campus and holiday specials
- Conduct interviews with students, faculty and visiting guest artists both in person and remotely
- Represent Classical IPR at public events in northern Michigan at venues from public libraries to classical music happy hours (5- 10 events per year)
- Seeks the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Complies with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA finances.

- Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.

Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in music performance, musicology, music theory, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience and deep knowledge of classical music
- Experience in teaching, radio hosting, podcasting, or other forms of spoken public communication about classical music
- Experience with Adobe Audition or similar digital audio workstations (DAWs), as well as music library or cataloging software
- Strong knowledge of classical music styles, genres, and composers
- Proficiency with Google Suite
- Audio editing and production experience in a DAW, with preference for Adobe Audition
- Ability to follow and execute verbal and written instructions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
