Trammell PC is a growing plaintiff-side law firm focused on delivering excellent client outcomes while maintaining strong internal systems and financial discipline. We are building a high-functioning, process-driven operation and are seeking someone who can take ownership of the firm’s accounting and settlement workflows.

The Role

This is not a traditional bookkeeping role.

We are seeking a Legal Accounting & Settlement Manager who understands the flow of funds in a contingency-fee law firm—from incoming settlements to final disbursements. This person will manage day-to-day AP/AR and play a critical role in handling client trust accounts, settlement tracking, and disbursement processes.

The ideal candidate has experience in a law firm environment and is comfortable managing high-volume financial transactions with precision and accountability.

Key ResponsibilitiesTrust & Settlement Accounting (Core Focus)

  • Manage and reconcile client trust (IOLTA) accounts
  • Track incoming settlement funds and ensure proper allocation
  • Prepare and execute settlement disbursements, including payments to:
    • Clients
    • Medical providers / lienholders
    • Associate/co-counsel
  • Maintain accurate disbursement statements and supporting documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all trust accounting rules and internal controls

Accounting Operations (AP/AR)

  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable
  • Process vendor payments accurately and on time
  • Track firm expenses and maintain organized financial records
  • Monitor incoming funds and ensure proper categorization
  • Support payroll coordination and documentation

Financial Reporting & Reconciliation

  • Perform monthly account reconciliations (operating + trust)
  • Prepare internal financial reports, including tracking fees and case-related revenue
  • Maintain audit-ready records and organized financial systems

Banking & Transaction Management

  • Manage wires, ACH payments, and check processing
  • Set up and verify banking instructions for payees
  • Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions

Coordination & Compliance

  • Coordinate with associate counsel on payments and required documentation (W-9s, 1099s)
  • Communicate with clients regarding disbursements when needed
  • Enforce internal financial controls and resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance standards

Operations Support

  • Identify inefficiencies and improve financial workflows
  • Support leadership with reporting and financial visibility
  • Help maintain a structured, well-run back office

This Role Is Not

  • Remote or hybrid
  • A basic bookkeeping/data entry role
  • A purely strategic or oversight-only position
  • A legal (attorney/paralegal) role

Qualifications

  • Experience in law firm accounting (strongly preferred)
  • Direct experience with:
    • Trust accounts (IOLTA)
    • Settlement disbursements (highly preferred)
  • Strong understanding of AP/AR and reconciliations
  • Extremely detail-oriented and process-driven
  • Comfortable managing high-volume financial transactions
  • Ability to work in-office in Houston
