Land Management Intern
The mission of the Villa Maria Community Center Land Management Internship Program is to provide students majoring in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Environmental Biology, Sustainable Agriculture, Sustainable Living, and related programs, with an opportunity to learn about underlying causes of and possible solutions for current environmental issues.
Internship Description
The Department of Land Management at the Villa Maria Community Center is currently seeking a responsible individual to support our ministry and services. The intern will work with the Director of Land Management to develop a substantive project that meets the organizations needs and the intern’s interests.
The intern will be in a mentoring relationship and will report to the Director of Land Management. Together they will complete an evaluation of student performance for the student’s education institution upon the completion of the internship. This is a paid internship; the intern will receive one meal/day and is able to receive course credit once approved by their faculty advisor.
Duties/Skills Needed
- Interest in sustainable agriculture and land systems
- Assist with routine farm tasks
- Soil Management and preparation – nutrient amendments
- Planting seeds and seedlings or bedding plants
- Weeding – hand-hoeing, cultivating, etc.
- Transplanting
- Harvesting, preparing food for distribution or marketing
- Possible assistance with Farm Based Environmental education
- Greenhouse work depending on season: planting, transplanting, working with organic fertilization systems
- Possible assistance with special events such as Farm Tours and various workshops related to organics
