Family Services Specialist

Early Intervention Family Services Specialist – Year Round 24 hours per week

Job description: The Childhood League Center, a licensed early childhood education program, has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Family Services Specialist, 24 hours per week, year-round position. The Family Services Specialist provides support services for families of infants and young children under the age of three who are enrolled in Center programs. The Family Services Specialist is responsible for intake, family assessment, family training, and ongoing family support services, including transition into preschool and other community settings. Family Services Specialists function as part of an interdisciplinary team, both representing family needs/issues and advocating for families.

  • Facilitate the intake process: phone referrals, tours, drop-in inquiries, tracking required enrollment paperwork, interact with student database, and attending home visits.
  • Works with Early Intervention (EI) team to assess families’ needs, and establish next steps, as needed.
  • Maintain community relationships (schools, outside resources, Help Me Grow (HMG) etc.) and collaborating on behalf and for the benefit of children and families.
  • Assist EI team in linking families to resources in the community—providing information, making direct referrals, accompanying parents to community meetings/tours, assisting with completion of paperwork. This may include facilitating follow-up communication between EI team, family, and outside service providers.
  • Promote healthy relationships that are respectful and supportive of all families, which include the awareness of cultural diversity. Maintain detailed confidential documentation of work with and regarding EI families.
  • Support parent education, family events and encourage family involvement at The Center. Actively participates in the ongoing development of parent programming. Acts as a liaison w/Families Connecting.
  • Coordination of benevolent services, such as holiday help, the furniture program, ongoing emergency supports, and pantry donations.
  • Support The Center’s programming, as needed, which includes, but is not limited to: collaborate with supervisor and preschool family services specialist to support Family Care and Connection events, providing back-up support at the front desk during drop off and pickup as needed, and attending PD sessions.
  • Act as a liaison with The Center’s parent group, Families Connecting.
  • Attend required meetings including: EI team meetings, Family Services team meetings, all-staff meetings, reflective supervision meetings with EI and Family Service Supervisor
  • Participate collaboratively as a member of the TECIP (Traumatic Event Crisis Intervention Plan) Team.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

 

Bachelor’s Degree in social work, social services, or related field, required

LSW licensure preferred

Availability to support 3-5 annual events, which may necessitate occasional evening or Saturday hours to meet Center family’s needs, required

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with professionals, parents/families, and staff, required

General computer skills, including Microsoft Word, email, and the internet, required

Ability to relate to variety of audiences, required

Ability to create presentations and present information for staff and parent/family education, required

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Tools/Equipment Use: Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair.

Posture: Prolonged sitting and/or standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting.

Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 20 pounds)

Environment: Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours.

Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions
