Akron Community Internship- Data Visualization Intern

Summit Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a subdivision of the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture, thus is a government agency. Their mission is to provide leadership and advocate for the stewardship of natural resources and responsible land use in Summit County. 

Position Summary: Organize accurate records in a structured inventory system (used by volunteers) from previous years,

  • Create a grading scale based on best practices in water conservation, and grade watersheds in Summit County.
  • Process stream sample data from (software/program currently used by volunteers) into easy to digest infographics for public outreach
  • Collaborate with the supervisor to refine documentation standards, participate in periodic check-ins and reflective discussions related to learning objectives.
  • Teach another staff member or volunteer how to update system, grading scale, and make changes on the physical ‘report card’ or create a guide for future employees to use.
  • Prepare a final product such as a brochure, poster, or other type of deliverable that can be shared by SSWCD online and in person.

Perfect for data analytics, biology, geosciences, science education, and communications majors.

A background check and drug test will be required.

Project Timeline: l 2026 | 100 hrs. | Hybrid
