Position Overview:
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences (BIDLS) are committed to improving health outcomes for people living with HIV. The Office of Health Care Planning (OHCP) is looking for an intern to assist on a project that will evaluate HIV care outcomes for people living with HIV and receiving care in MA. Working alongside OHCP epidemiologists, the intern will support the project through data cleaning, analysis, and development of SAS programs that generate reports summarizing HIV care engagement and retention for people living with HIV. These reports will be shared with relevant providers to support ongoing improvements in access to and engagement with HIV care.
This is a good opportunity for students interested in learning about using data to evaluate public health programming and wishing to gain strong SAS programming experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Processing and cleaning of person-level data
- Develop and execute SAS programs that generate reports and data visualizations
- Conducting descriptive data analysis
Skills & Qualifications:
- Understanding or interest in the principles and practices of epidemiology
- Experience performing descriptive data analysis
- Intermediate ability to use SAS statistical analysis software
- Experience with creating and working with SAS macros
- Ability to write SAS programs that process and summarize data into PDF reports
