Primary Prevention and Outreach Intern

DPH Paid Internship Program, Fall 2026-Spring 2027

Intern Title: Primary Prevention and Outreach Intern 

Eligible Academic Level: Associate’s, Bachelor’s 
Preferred Field(s) of Study: Epidemiology/health statistics or nutrition/maternal and child health majors with statistical experience and interest in strengthening data skills 

  • Semester: Fall & Spring 
  • Total Hours: 288 
  • Hours Per Week: Part Time (approx. 12 hours)  
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid  
  • On Site Location: 250 Washington Street, Boston MA     

 


Position Overview:   

Under the guidance of the Primary Prevention team, the intern would review and update Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program’s (CLPPP) educational materials portfolio and assist with the roll-out of CLPPP’s Point of Care Lead Testing Pilot under the State’s Rural Health Transformation Program. The intern will familiarize themselves with CLPPP’s brochures and factsheets, work with other CLPPP staff to identify any areas where content needs to be updated and propose updates to the documents to make them modern and engaging.  

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Review CLPPP brochures, fact sheets, and other materials to check for accuracy and clarity 
  • Help create or update educational materials such as infographics, handouts, or digital content 
  • Organize and maintain the program’s educational materials so they are easy to find and up to date. 
  • Join team meetings, share updates on your work, and help with planning as needed. 

 

Skills & Qualifications:  

  • Interest in public health, environmental health, or epidemiology, and a willingness to build data and communication skills 
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to explain information clearly 
  • Basic understanding of public health concepts, especially childhood lead exposure or primary prevention  
  • Ability to work well with a team and communicate professionally 
  • Ability to work independently, ask questions when needed, and manage time effectively in a hybrid setting
