DPH Paid Internship Program, Fall 2026-Spring 2027

Project Name: WIC Hybrid Service Delivery Models - Analysis of Participant Outcomes 

Intern Title: WIC Evaluation Intern 

Eligible Academic Level: Bachelor’s, Master’s 

Preferred Field(s) s of Study: Epidemiology/health statistics or nutrition/maternal and child health majors with statistical experience and interest in strengthening data skills 

  • Semester: Fall   
  • Total Hours: 144    
  • Hours Per Week: Part Time (approx. 12 hours)  
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid  
  • On Site Location: 250 Washington Street, Boston MA     

 
Position Overview:  

The intern position would be responsible for leading an evaluation of the impact of hybrid service delivery/remote Women Infant and Children (WIC) services models in Massachusetts WIC, with a specific emphasis on outcomes related to program retention and benefit redemption. The evaluation would be conducted under the oversight of the epidemiologist assigned to the Nutrition Division and the Nutrition Division Director. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • The intern would be responsible for  
  • Meeting with various WIC collaborators to understand how to design the quantitative evaluation of the WIC hybrid service model,  
  • Utilize available WIC administrative data sets to conduct the evaluation, using statistical software and other resources,  
  • Determine additional needed data collection and analysis opportunities to enhance the evaluation, and  
  • Present findings at the WIC Local Program Business Meeting in December 2026 (either December 4th or December 11th). 
     

Skills & Qualifications: 

We would be interested in a student with an interest in public health nutrition or maternal and child health that has some basic data analysis skills (SAS preferred but would consider students with experience in other software applications) and is looking to increase their experience in working with larger, more complex data sets to evaluate program implementation and support future policy decisions.
