Residence Life Summer Student Assistant

  • Providing high-quality customer service to current and prospective residents and their families;
  • Door/key access, and distribution of information on room assignments; 
  • High level knowledge of campus resources and creating a welcoming, inclusive office and desk atmosphere. 
  • They will also assist with:
    • Facilities functions include moving supplies from storage spaces; 
    • Organizing front desk and office space under supervisor direction;
    • Managing miscellaneous tasks.
  • Assist with the marketing of the housing options by providing detailed information and ensuring prospective families and residents receive a response to their questions and concerns
  • Provide outstanding customer service, appropriate information regarding the Department of Residence Life & Housing, and campus directions/information in person, email, or via telephone
  • Operate within and access the housing database that includes housing applications, housing room assignments, and temporary access keys and cards during the academic year or summer, depending on hiring season
  • Assist with student move-ins, move-outs, and room changes by helping with preparing check-in/out packets
  • Provide desk services with clerical office duties including assisting in answering telephones with proper etiquette, filing, operating copier and other office machines, as well as other duties as neededExplain and enforce policies and procedures regarding housing operations
  • Assist in the opening and operation of the Residence Life/Ritchie Hall Service Desk and the Department of Residence Life Housing staff offices.
  • Open and close the Department of Residence Life and Housing including unlocking entry, filing, and closet doors
  • Inventorying and organizing storage rooms and other residential/campus facilities
  • Transporting items and supplies to varying storage rooms and other residential/campus facilities
  • Student Assistant staff might be required to perform work responsibilities during the following periods: 
    • Academic year hires: three days after fall and spring closing. (On-Campus Residential Students will be provided compensated extended stay)
    • Summer staff: immediately following the end of the Spring semester and leading up to the start of the Fall semester (On-Campus Residential Students will be provided extended stay for Spring and early move-in at no cost if a Fall resident)
  • Assist the various areas within the Department of Residence Life and Housing as needed
  • Availability to work a minimum of 10 hours during office hours and the occasional weekend for special events
    • Work week for school year: Monday-Friday; 8 am to 5 pm
    • Work week for summer sessions: Monday-Friday; 8 am to 4:30 pm
  • Must be in good standing and maintain that standing, with the University of Akron academically as well as student conduct
  • Maintain the minimum GPA requirements 2.5 GPA 
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills while maintaining the confidentiality and following all university policies and regulations (i.e. FERPA)
  • Maintain an ability to remain focused in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions and distractions with high attention to detail
  • Other duties as assigned
