Responsibilities for this role include:
- Develop, design and manage molds & tooling for injection molding & plastic part assembly processes
- Conduct internal & external supplier design reviews for new molds and changes/revisions to existing molds.
- Set-up, start-up, trials and monitoring of new and current injection molds and tooling to ensure optimum product quality, productivity and uptime.
- Troubleshooting and problem resolution of injection molds, molded parts, tooling and processes.
- Provide technical training and support to production and maintenance personnel to ensure competence in the operation and maintaining of molds, tooling & equipment.
- Utilize data based approach to identify and implement process improvements.
- Optimize injection mold & tooling design for quality, productivity & minimal material usage.
- Identify and apply the latest technical advancements in injection molding and tooling.
- Continually improve internal and external mold and tooling suppliers.
- Manage all mold and tooling related procedures, work instructions and databases.
- Participate in the creation and improvement of process work instructions.
- Meet key performance metrics for safety, quality, cost and delivery.
Experience/Technical skills required:
- Engineering/Technical Degree and/or Journeyman Mold Maker is preferred.
- Minimum three years of demonstrated experience in injection mold & tooling design.
- SOLIDWORKS, Inventor & AutoCAD experience.
- Demonstrated “hands on” injection molding process start-up and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read mold & tooling drawings for troubleshooting and repair.
- Background in any of the following areas are strongly preferred:
- Plastic part design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Mold flow analysis
- CNC Machining, turning, grinding, EDM
- Insert injection-molding processes
- Manual and optical measurement techniques
- Machine repair and preventative maintenance
- Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) training and experience
- Robotics: Yushin, Denso, UR, Epson, Engel
- Plastic joining technologies (ultrasonic, vibration, laser and/or hot plate)
- Familiar with Quality tools (PFMEA, Control plans, Measurement techniques)
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2015 and/or IATF16949:2016.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Work setting includes all areas of the plant and offices.
- Work with manufacturing equipment will include working around hot plastic, heated tools and moving equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. intermittently.
- Ability to move molds and tooling in excess of a hundred pounds on an intermittent basis.
