Summer 2026 Environmental Engineering Co‑Op / Intern

Location: Kankakee, IL      
Type: Full Time or Part Time, Temporary                 
Department: Plant Operations

WHEN YOU JOIN US, YOU WILL BE;

  • Gain an understanding of plant operations, processes, and equipment with a focus on environmental performance and compliance
  • Support environmental and sustainability initiatives related to:
  • Waste reduction
  • Energy efficiency
  • Environmental permits and reporting
  • Pollution prevention and resource conservation
  • Assist with projects involving both capital and non‑capital environmental improvements, working with internal teams, contractors, and consultants as needed
  • Collect, analyze, and organize environmental and operational data to support compliance tracking and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support environmental documentation, standard work instructions, and process controls to sustain compliance and best practices
  • Assist with job hazard analyses and identify environmental and safety risks in plant processes
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and corrective action tracking related to environmental, health, and safety requirements
  • Support the implementation of 5S and Lean Manufacturing practices with an environmental and sustainability lens

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE;

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work in cross‑functional teams
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, procedures, and reports
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Power BI or Python is a plus
  • Interest in environmental compliance, sustainability, and industrial environmental systems

Work Authorizations and Travel:

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • No travel requirements.
