Entry Level Civil Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic Civil or Structural Engineer to join our client TRC Companies and their growing Structural Engineering team in Richmond, VA. This role involves working closely with a diverse team of engineers, designers, and specialists to deliver projects to a variety of clients, including architects, owners, and developers. Our team specializes in innovative and sustainable building solutions and is committed to delivering high-quality structural designs and services across various industries.
Responsibilities
- Execute engineering best practices on a wide variety of projects for diverse clients, adapting to new environments quickly.
- Design and analyze structural systems for buildings, including reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, cold-formed metal framing, and wood framing.
- Design and study foundations and site infrastructure elements, such as shallow foundations, deep foundations, retaining walls, pedestrian bridges, and pavements.
- Create 3-dimensional models of building structures using Revit software in collaboration with client Building Information Models (BIM).
- Be actively involved in all structural project aspects, including design/study development, construction management, project management, RFI's/RFPs/Submittals, and client meetings, as needed.
- Assist Senior Structural Engineers and Project Managers in producing project plans, specifications, scheduling, budgeting, technical memorandums, and cost estimates.
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and inspections, and assist with data collection, compilation, and assessment for projects.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, cities/clients, and other public agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering with 0-1 years of relevant work experience. (Internships and Co-ops are fine if relevant)
- Proficiency with Revit, Excel, and Blue Beam or the ability to learn.
- Knowledge of structural principles.
- Understanding/exposure to finite element analysis principles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- EIT certification having successfully passed the FE exam preferred.
- Master’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or a related discipline with an emphasis on structural design preferred.
- Experience using computer-assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering and design documents (examples include software such as AutoCAD).
- Familiarity with current structural design codes such as IBC, ASCE, and ACI.
- Demonstrated ability to use 3-dimensional structural analysis and design software.
- Demonstrated ability to use structural design software for structural steel, reinforced concrete, wood framing, foundations, and retaining walls.

The position is onsite five days a week in Richmond, VA, with a gradual transition to a hybrid schedule as career development progresses.
