About the Position
Lane County Public Works is seeking a seasonal Road Maintenance Worker to join our Vegetation Crew based in Eugene. This is a hands-on, outdoor role for someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in maintaining public spaces, and wants to contribute to the safety and beauty of our local transportation system.
As part of the Vegetation Crew, you’ll support essential roadside maintenance activities across Lane County—helping keep roadways clear, visible, and safe for the community. This work plays a direct role in preventing hazards, improving driver visibility, and maintaining the overall condition of our roads and rights-of-way.
In this role, you can expect to:
- Perform vegetation control along roadsides, including mowing, trimming, brush cutting, and debris removal
- Operate light equipment and tools
- Assist with general road maintenance tasks as part of a team

About the Division
The Road Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the County transportation system including some state highways and city streets under contract with Lane County. Although the majority of equipment and employees in Road Maintenance are based at the Delta Complex, satellite shops are located near Cottage Grove, Dexter, Veneta, and Florence. A crew and equipment are assigned to each Road Maintenance Zone. The Bridge Projects Crew and Vegetation Crew are headquartered at Delta and work throughout the County.

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 6:30am - 5:00pm. Overtime and/or shift changes required per operational needs.

*This position is budgeted for a maximum of 1,040 hours during the fiscal year
QUALIFICATIONS:
Training:
- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Experience:
- One year of experience in the operation of light equipment or performing unskilled or semi-skilled tasks.
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements:
- Offers of employment are contingent upon consenting to and successfully passing a background check.
- This position is subject to a background check.
DRIVER’S LICENSE:
- Must be in possession of a valid driver's license at time of application, and a valid Oregon Driver's license by time of appointment.
