Summer Camp Director

SUMMER CAMP DIRECTOR – COMMUNITY LIFE DEPARTMENT: Community Life SALARY: $18.000 per hour STATUS: Full-Time Seasonal REPORTS TO: Director, Community Life 

General Purpose: The Program Director for the Summer Camp in Community Life is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of a high-quality summer camp program. This role involves overseeing staff, developing camp schedules, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and creating an engaging and inclusive environment for all campers. The Program Director will work closely with the Recreation Department to ensure the camp aligns with community goals and departmental standards. 

Essential Duties and responsibilities: • Develop and oversee the implementation of a fun, educational, and engaging summer camp program. • Plan daily and weekly activities, including sports, arts & crafts, outdoor adventures, and special events. • Ensure programs are age-appropriate, inclusive, and align with the Community Life department’s mission. • Assist with recruitment and hire of personnel. • Train, and supervise camp counselors, activity leaders, and volunteers. • Assist with staff orientations and ongoing training to ensure program quality and safety. • Ensure compliance of all finance and accounting policies and procedures. • Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to staff throughout the summer. • Act as the main point of contact for parents, handling inquiries, concerns, and emergencies professionally. • Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for all campers, promoting positive behavior and participation. • Address and resolve behavioral issues in alignment with camp policies. • Ensure all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk management policies are followed. • Maintain proper camper-to-staff ratios and enforce health and safety regulations. • Monitor and report any incidents, accidents, or concerns promptly. • Manage camp registration, attendance records, and program evaluations. • Coordinate transportation, meal plans, and supply inventory as needed. • Oversee budget management and expense tracking for camp-related activities. • Prepare and maintain records on purchases orders. • Seasonal position (typically May–August) with full-time or part-time hours. • Performs other duties as required. 

Desired Minimum Qualifications: • High school graduate or equivalent experience or related education and at least eighteen (18) years of age. Two (2) Years of College in (Education major) preferred. • Previous experience in summer camp leadership, youth programming, or recreation management. • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. • Ability to manage a team, resolve conflicts, and create a positive camp culture. • Ability to effectively work and communicate with City officials, co-workers, residents and the general public. • Knowledge of child development, behavior management, and activity planning. • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends. • Be a positive reflection of the Department of Community Life and the city of Bedford Heights. • Valid Ohio Driver's license. • Ability to obtain Red Cross Certificate in First Aid and CPR.
