Marketing Assistant - Summer 2026 - Work Study or Regular Pay

Position Summary:

The Marketing Assistant supports the execution of marketing strategies for the University Bookstore and its five service areas: Gifts & Apparel, Textbook Services, Printing Services, Custom Shop, and Rock County Campus Store.

This role focuses on social media content creation, website management, photography, and weekly campaign execution. The Marketing Assistant collaborates with student content creators and works under the direction of the Marketing Assistant Director as well as the Associate Director and Executive Director to ensure all marketing efforts are timely, consistent, and aligned with brand standards.

Beginning in late July/early August, this position will also serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day marketing execution while the Marketing Assistant Director is on maternity leave. During this time, the Marketing Assistant will lead the implementation of all Fall marketing initiatives that have been planned over the summer, as well as manage ongoing campaigns and emerging marketing needs.

Start Date: 

This position will start in May 2026. With employment over the summer and continuing into the fall semester.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute weekly marketing initiatives across social media, website, and in-store promotions
  • Create and manage social media content, ensuring alignment with brand voice, trends, and campaign goals
  • Collaborate with student content creators and follow structured approval workflows prior to publishing
  • Support visual marketing efforts, including photography, video content, and digital/print signage
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day marketing during the Marketing Assistant Director’s maternity leave (beginning late July/early August), leading the execution of all Fall campaigns and managing ongoing and emerging marketing initiatives.

Website & E-Commerce Management

  • Maintain and update website content, including product listings, images, and descriptions
  • Upload new merchandise with accurate details (sizes, colors, pricing, vendor information)
  • Optimize website performance by updating images and product organization
  • Troubleshoot product issues (e.g., SKUs, barcodes, pricing discrepancies)
  • Assist with catalog organization and overall site upkeep

Marketing & Events Support

  • Assist in planning and executing promotions, campaigns, and events
  • Support and attending tabling events - taking part in campus outreach, and in-store activations 
    • (i.e SOAR tabling in the UC or at the Bookstore, Athletic Event Tabling, UC Tabling etc.)
  • Engage with customers and followers to build brand awareness and community
  • Collaborate with campus partners to strengthen relationships and expand reach

Strategy & Team Collaboration

  • Participate in regular marketing planning meetings to contribute ideas and support campaign execution 
  • Assist with event setup, on-site execution, and post-event evaluations
  • Provide coverage and support for marketing operations as needed, including assisting with campaign implementation and signage updates

Administrative & Operational Tasks

  • Update store and submit digital signage/announcement requests
  • Pick up printed marketing materials as needed from the media lab or UC graphics
  • Complete additional marketing-related tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Marketing or a related field
  • Availability to work 15–20 hours per week
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn tools such as Trello and Google Workspace
  • Experience with Canva and/or CapCut (or similar design/video editing tools)
  • Basic photography and videography skills
  • Experience creating and managing content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse campus groups
