Job Summary
This 2.5-month, lab-intensive internship in South San Francisco offers a front-row seat to the cutting edge of Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT). If you are a driven undergraduate student looking to transition from classroom theory to high-impact industry research, this role provides the perfect launchpad to master the "gold standard" of biotech laboratory techniques.
Job Responsibilities
The first few weeks, the intern will develop proficiency with molecular cloning of novel capsids, plasmid preparation, mammalian cell transfection, AAV packaging, and AKTA instrumentation and purification workflows, mammalian cell transduction. This will be a tight project enabling the intern to master major lab skills. As this level of self-sufficiency is achieved, they will work with their manager and stakeholders to identify a problem or area of focus that needs further exploration and subsequently develop skills and execute a plan to achieve these goals. The last few weeks will be spent organizing their work and findings into an accessible and insightful capstone presentation to a broader audience.
Throughout their time at AGT, the intern will be expected and encouraged to pick up techniques and skills as they see fit to contribute to company projects and further their career. Additionally, a part of this role may involve communicating with other parts of the company including engineering and process groups locally and abroad.
Education & Qualifications
Required:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in natural science or engineering
- Must have an interest in pursuing a career in Life Sciences/Biotech/Pharmaceuticals
- Ability to manage workload effectively including planning, organizing, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
Preferred:
- Background in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology and biophysics
