Early Childhood Head Teacher

POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY

  • Those entrusted to work with our Tiny and Little Wonders students are responsible for meeting the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of all children in the program. 
     

JOB STRUCTURE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Non-Exempt, year-round employee status
  • Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and required training
  • Reports to Director/Assistant Director of Early Childhood
  • Oversee, support, and develop Assistant Teachers and Aides
  • Serves on the Early Childhood, Tiny Wonders, and Little Wonders department teams
     

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required:
    • 3+ years experience teaching
    • 3+ years experience of direct involvement in student care and education 
    • A minimum of 12 ECE units, including a caring for infants and toddlers class
    • CPR Certification
    • Livescan background check (fingerprints) 
    • A clean medical certificate, including updated immunizations - Pertussis, Measles, Influenza, and TB
  • Preferred:
    • Familiarity with school, non-profit, and business laws
    • Technology - Mac literate; knowledge of Word, Excel, Google, etc.

    • A willingness to learn about and support the mission of SLO Classical Academy passionately
    • Committed to supporting and upholding the school’s unique makeup as non-sectarian and accessible to families and employees from various backgrounds and beliefs


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide quality instruction and learning opportunities for students enrolled in SLOCA’s Early Childhood Program
  • Spend a reasonable amount of time out of class on curricula development, lesson planning, and preparing to provide in-class services
  • Attend and take part in various school events
  • Attend necessary meetings such as IEPs, Family Action Plans, department, and team meetings, etc.
  • Provide a safe environment and supervision at all times while creating a positive learning space
  • Engaging toddlers/preschoolers in age-appropriate activities
  • Openly communicating with families and staff at all levels
  • Developing and implementing daily and weekly lesson plan activities that meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the students in the program
  • Assist in daily necessities, observations, and developmental milestones
  • Assist in establishing routines
  • Willingness to be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program
  • Perform other duties as required

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to lift to 50 pounds on a limited basis.  Able to stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and move around campuses easily for extended periods.  Able to work irregular hours to attend or support meetings, school events, etc.
