Deputy Town Attorney

The Town of Prescott Valley is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and experienced individual to join our team as the Deputy Town Attorney. This executive-level position offers the opportunity to play a key leadership role in guiding the Town's legal strategy, overseeingcivil litigation, and advising leadership on matters impacting our evolving community.

 

As Deputy Town Attorney, you will be working closely with the Town Attorney, directing and managing civil litigations for the Town, representing municipal interests in negotiations and legal proceedings and provide trusted legal counsel to the Town Manager, Town Council, department directors, boards and staff.

 

In addition to litigation experience, candidates must possess experience and understanding of the various aspects of civil municipal law (including code compliance, contracts, economic development, elections, the environment, intergovernmental relations, land use, open meetings, personnel,  procurement, property, and risk management). A primary focus is on Arizona land use law and related subjects such as annexation, infrastructure finance, development agreements, and Arizona water law.

 

This role is ideal for a seasoned attorney who thrives in a high-performing, collaborative public service environment and is energized by tackling complex municipal issues that have significant impact.The successful candidate must be able to navigate these complexities, build effective working relationships, and communicate legal issues clearly and effectively.

 

REQUIRED

Juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school with a minimum of three (3) years increasingly responsible legal counsel experience including one (1) year of civil courtroom experience.

 

Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Arizona

 

PREFERRED

  • Experience in leading and managing civil litigation involving the Town, including case strategy, pleadings, negotiations, and court oradministrative proceedings.
  • Experience in Arizona land use law, rezoning, entitlements, and annexation while navigating complex assured water supply and infrastructure financing requirements.
  • Background in drafting and reviewing complex legal documentsincluding contracts, development agreements, intergovernmental agreements, ordinances, resolutions and policies.
  • Experience in coordinating with and overseeing outside counsel, consultants, and insurance representatives.
  • Ability to apply legal principles to determinations on individual cases and problems.
  • Familiarity with public meetings and hearings to provide legal guidance to elected officials and advisory boards.
