Position Overview:
Old Republic is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic interns to join our 12–week Internship Program. This immersive experience offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across various departments, develop professional skills, and build meaningful connections in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Interns will contribute to real projects, learn from experienced professionals, and gain insight into the operations and culture of our organization.
Program Objectives:
- Provide interns with practical, hands-on experience in a professional setting.
- Develop key skills, including communication, problem-solving, time management, and teamwork and collaboration.
- Introduce interns to various aspects of the organization and potential career paths.
- Support interns in completing a capstone project and delivering a final presentation to stakeholders, demonstrating applied skills and strategic thinking.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with day-to-day projects and tasks in the assigned department.
- Support cross-functional teams and collaborate on initiatives to drive business objectives.
- Participate in meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations and departmental needs.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate program, or a recent graduate.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
- Strong time management skills and prioritizing competing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Department Placement & Responsibilities:
Interns will be placed in a designated business area based on interest and organizational need. Please rank the following department preferences from most preferred to least preferred.
1. Actuarial (Chicago)
- Gain foundational understanding of Old Republic’s actuarial function and workflow
- Assist with loss data analysis to identify trends and patterns
- Support exposure data analysis used in pricing and reserving
- Help with actuarial modeling for new business and renewal submissions
2. Internal Audit (Chicago)
- Assist with data migration and configuration activities within Workiva
- Support SOX testing through documentation review and control walkthroughs
- Participate in operational audits by helping gather data
3. Data Analytics (Chicago)
- Support data collection, organization, and analysis using common data formats (CSV, JSON, Excel) and structured datasets
- Contribute to the development of dashboards or reports using introductory business intelligence tools
- Assist with basis SQL queries and help maintain relational database accuracy and data integrity
- Participate in data workflow activities, including ingestion, transformation, and documentation and repeatable processes
4. Tax (Chicago)
- Assist with the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns under the supervision of senior tax professionals.
- Conduct tax research using internal resources and online tax research tools to identify applicable tax laws, regulations, and guidance.
- Gain exposure to income tax accounting concepts
5. Regulatory Compliance (Chicago)
- Participate in the development of Change Management for Laws and Regulatory workflow activities, including ingestion, transformation and documentation for any existing or new processes.
- Contribute to the development of dashboards/reporting by developing process guidance documentation and aids.
- Support data collection, organization, and analysis using common data formats (CSV, Excel, SQL, Smartsheet) and dataset cleansing.
